FAB bush camp was unique in every way. Comfortable rooms, great food (too much), friendly staff with local stories and daily excursions and fishing. The coastal scenery, rock art and bird life added to this unique holiday.
Gerri & Ross Luck, Perth , August 2016, TripAdvisor

What a way to wake up each morning!

The trip from the airstrip was a bit bumpy, but then you can’t have an airstrip next to a luxury bush camp that has fantastic views out across Faraway Bay. Anyway, Kevin’s commentary on the drive was entertaining and informative.
At Faraway Bay, you are far way. No roads to this spot, everything comes in the light aircraft. My wife was sitting next to cartons of food and beer! Plus a new water pump for the camp. The food was fantastic. The menu varied and there was plenty of it. The flight into the camp is fantastic, with aerial views of King George Falls and other well known spots, with a commentary from the pilot. The sightseeing boat trips to neighbouring bays and to secret safe swimming holes, provided opportunities to swim in gin clear pools! Fishing in mangrove creeks and out along the cliffs provided even first time fishers the thrill of catching dinner.Aboriginal rock art is prolific, with locations still being found.
My wife and I loved the whole experience. Thanks so much to Kevin, Gemma and Sophie for the thoughtful care you provided

“We are so excited to have experienced Faraway Bay.  It encapsulates so many values we treasure – pristine environment, remote and undeveloped, nature in all it’s glory. We enjoy the seclusion and peace that is difficult to experience in our ‘normal’ lives. But more than this – we have been moved by the passion and commitment you have shared with us whether discussing rock art, nature, history or great meals & conversations They may be old school values, but they resonate deeply with us and we are all richer for it. The sharing  of time together  in a timeless land is the most rewarding and enriching experience. Thank you, we will never forget this, with love “

“1000 thank yous.  What a great trip. Rock Art Retreat 2016. The best thing for me was the hours of conversation with Ju Ju and me asking probably silly questions but most always getting answers and sometimes one of her great laugh out loud laughs. The art of course was more than I had hoped and quite a range of styles in addition to the Bradshaws which were the main driver for me.   Such an amazing wealth in so small an area.Too bad about the salties as would probably have enjoyed a snorkel around some of the rocks.  Can’t have it all though.  Great meals, great art, great company and perfect weather – the 110% effort.    Thanks to all involved.”  Cheers,  John Platten”  Gunns Plains Tasmania June 2016

A Faraway adventure that is magic….”
We have travelled to many nations and exotic places around the world, but our four days at Faraway Bay stand out among the very best. Faraway Bay is true Australian wilderness: isolated, with beautiful scenery, waterways, ruggered coastline, waterfalls, swimming holes, fishing and wonderful aboriginal rock art, but it is also a place where one is totally pampered. A one hour flight in a light ‘plane from Kununurra is the only way there. You are met by Kevin, the owner, your driver, guide, skipper, rock art specialist, chef, handyman and everything else. Activities are for you to choose; the rock art, fishing, waterhole swimming and waterfall ‘showers’ from within the boat were all magnificent. We were a group of five guests with three lovely staff – all seemed part of a family. The food was of highest restaurant quality; even the lunches while out on the boat. The facilities are ruggered, but beautiful. The central bar, lounge, library and dining table are open with a view the whole length of Faraway Bay. There is a swimming pool, spar and driving ‘green’ adjacent to the lounge. Frequent visitors included monitor lizards, spotted quolls, blue winged kookaburras, brahminy kites and many other birds. The cabins are comfortable with open mesh, a small en-suite and outside shower in a three-quarter water tank with wonderful views, but secluded from all other cabins. It is not ‘five-star’ accommodation, but extremely comfortable in an amazing setting. We are soon returning for at least a week!!J Black, Warrimoo, NSW, March 2016. – Review Tripadvisor

When I am awesome wonder…..

My daughter had visited Faraway Bay in 2015 and wanted me to experience it first hand. As she said, “What better way to celebrate being 70, Mum” ! From the moment we met our pilot, Georgie, at Kununurra airport for our flight to the airstrip at Faraway Bay I knew it was going to be a very special adventure. I was not to be disappointed. Kevin, Gemma and Amber looked after our every need. The food was astonishing especially bearing in mind that everything has to be airlifted in to the camp – no Coles online ordering up here!! Each day was a different adventure in the boat, visiting the thundering King George Falls, having a shower under the Fountain of Youth, fishing, meandering into creeks that were barely visible even from a few metres away only to reveal a hidden waterfall, or fresh water swimming hole. Clambering over hot rocks was a challenge for me, but with the help and encouragement of everyone I got there……… and was it ever worth it!!!!! To be able to see rock art many thousands of years old close up, which hitherto I had only seen photographs of, was worth every drop of energy expended !! I shall never ever forget the experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Would I recommend it ? ………….for an experience of a lifetime, most definitely YES !!

Christine Norman, Port Adelaide, SA, March 2016

“My trip to Faraway Bay was part of the ANW Kimberley Bucket List First Prize  . So I didn’t know anything about Faraway Bay. What a suprise. Kevin & Gemma have been the warmest hosts. They have given us the total Faraway Bay experience . Indigenous rock art, bush walks, boat trips to King George River, all totally magnificent.  Accommodation has been 5 star, as has the food. I leave this place  changed , rejuvenated,  and totally grateful for the experiences these two people have given me.  Thank you so much…. much love”

Lyn & Simon Hawkins – Perth May 2015

It is not easy to know just how to express our appreciation and gratitude for the five wonderful days we all spent recently at that little piece of “heaven on earth” known as Faraway Bush Camp. Words are inadequate to express the feelings we experienced whilst there, and the memories we have taken away which will last a lifetime. I think the highlight of the whole trip was our Easter Sunday visit to “nature’s cathedral” of the King George Falls – quite awe-inspiring and making it easy to understand the strong connections between the indigenous peoples and nature. I am not in any way a religious person, but the whole experience that day brought to mind the initial words of the Holy Bible – Genesis chapter 1, verse 1 – “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth”. I think we were all “carried away a bit” that day! “

Chris & Dick Robinson, Jackie & Jeff Ashe, Perth, April 2015

“What a magic place. Not just the surroundings and the fun activities but the ease of the way you make friends of the people you meet. There seems to be a special spirit that binds you together, especially sitting around the campfire “The bush TV” talking and sharing a joke, stories and experience. Sally, Trevor and I became best mates within 12 hours of meeting and parting 4 days later with emails exchanged and invitations to come and stay at our place.

Thanks to Kev, Gemma, Emily, Gurval, Hos, Ben and especially BJ for helping make this such a wonderful, truly memorable experience.

“Fantastic and unique … Wonderfully run to provide an experience that is literally unique due to location, friendliness and quality. The site allows access to unspoiled beauty, and the management work to ensure guests are treated to a variety of activities that show the beauty, culture and wilderness of the place. The food is excellent, and the resort cultivates friendships. Just the best.” Edward Truman, Avalon Beach NSW, May 2014

“This was a totally unique experience being out in the Kimberley wilderness for four days and also having the pleasure of the great food and companionship. We’ve never seen anything like this. I have never seen people who worked so hard to make our stay a pleasant one. This is our first time to the Kimberley and one we will always remember.”

“Kevin, it is clear that you really love what you do and that clearly comes across in so many ways to make this a very special experience. From your expertise in handling the boat, your respect and love of the land, and of course the food and wine. You provide a safe adventure in an otherwise untouched environment. Deep appreciation for an unforgettable experience!”

Daniel Brown and Gretchen Nelson, USA, April 2014

“At a single, communal dinner table beneath an open-air lodge, 11 other guests and I tucked into its (fish caught that day) sweet white flesh, sprinkled with local mango salsa. The table was covered in made-from-scratch food…It was incredible what was produced from a rustic kitchen that has to wait for an ocean barge or light plane to bring in supplies. Almost as incredible as the view from the lodge’s cliff-top hammock, which overlooks a bay harbouring dugongs and crocodiles. I never wanted to leave. I even volunteered to work as an unpaid dishwasher, just so I could spend more time there. I suspect I am not the first.”

Fleur Bainger, Australian Traveller Magazine (favourite dining memories), Aug/Sept 2013

”This is about as far from a Bordeaux château or Champagne crayère as you can get. At Faraway Bay you drink Margaret River chardonnay and grand cru white Burgundy in shorts and thongs while the day’s fresh catch sits perfectly cooked on your plate … Faraway Bay’s owner, expert fisherman and incredibly adaptable head chef Kevin Reilly turns out food of a standard unmatched for a thousand miles.”

Nick Ryan, Journalist – Wine in the Wilderness 2013
