Immerse yourself in this fascinating ancient world at our exclusive ‘Rock Art Retreat’. This unique cultural experience will be led by respected and well known Aboriginal elder Ju Ju ‘Buriwee’ Wilson, and internationally-renowned archaeologist Lee Scott-Virtue.

You’ll be taken on a journey of discovery and amazement to sites often situated within unusual geological rock formations. These breathtaking locations are some of the Kimberley’s most secluded and unique, and are usually not accessed by the general public.

Back at Eagle Lodge, be captivated by the storytelling of Ju Ju as she paints. A talented artist herself, Ju Ju is fascinating to watch and to listen to.

Take a tour around the camp to learn about traditional bush tucker and bush medicine. Ju Ju and Lee will show you how food was gathered by Indigenous people many years ago and introduce you to the plants used to create traditional medicines.

Do as little or as much as you like during your stay. There will be plenty of time to enjoy all the usual Faraway Bay activities. Relax, swim in our spring-fed rock pool, fish, explore, and soak up the magic of Faraway Bay.

Nicole Kidman talks Kununurra with Ellen DeGeneres


In case you hadn’t heard, Ellen DeGeneres is bringing her US talk show to Australia in March. The announcement came following an interview with Nicole Kidman, who, not surprisingly, recommended Kununurra as her favourite place to visit.

Nicole visited with co-star Hugh Jackman during filming of Baz Luhrmann’s movie ‘Australia’, for which Faraway Bay was one of only two locations used as a base for the crew. During production, scenes were shot of our nearby natural wonder, the King George Falls.

The movie put the Kimberley region on the world map, and even our water became famous! It became known as a ‘pregnancy potion’ after Nicole Kidman unexpectedly fell pregnant with her baby daughter Sunday Rose during production. But Kidman, who never thought she could fall pregnant, wasn’t the only one to experience the Kimberley’s fertile waters – six other women who worked on the movie also conceived during the film’s production. Amazing!
